The Turkish language has been through many stages, one of those being Ottoman Turkish. Known for its overwhelming complexity, unintelligible writing and numerous loanwords, Ottoman Turkish was a mishmash of Persian, Arabic and Turkish vocabulary and grammar. But during the late 1920s and 1930s, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk reformed the language and created the Turkish we speak today.
In this blog, we will learn some Ottoman Turkish words (some of which you can still use today to spice up your speech) with examples from the historical TV series Magnificent Century and Turkish classical music singer Bülent Ersoy (if you don't know her, she can do this and this).
